more favourites of 2013

My non-beauty favourites of 2013!

Music:

– Jake Bugg

I first found out about him from the lineup at the Osheaga festival. After I listened a lot to his first album and fell in love. He has a different voice and I liked almost every song on his first album. With his second one out now, I’m liking his sound a lot.

– Arctic Monkeys

I can’t express how much I love their music. AM being released last September was awesome.

– Lorde

A fairly new artist, but I love every song of hers. I appreciate her song-writing.

– Tegan and Sara

I really only started listening to them when they released their 6th album, but I really liked Heartthrob. I still like their new sound even if it is a bit more pop.

– Two Door Cinema Club

I absolutely LOVED Two Door last year. It might’ve been unhealthy. I loved Beacon and Something Good Can Work is my most played song on my iPod. I was so happy when I got to see them at Osheaga.

– One Direction

I’d like to say it’s a guilty pleasure? I don’t really listen to pop stuff anymore, but I like 1D. Was lucky to go to the Take Me Home tour last summer :)

TV & Movies

So, sci-fi and dystopian stuff is kinda my thing…

– Orphan Black (TV)

My friend told me about this show and thank goodness he did. Such an addictive series, on the first episode I was hooked. Even better that it is a sci-fi series set in Toronto, filmed in Toronto. Thank you BBC America. Also, Tatiana Maslany is one hell of an actress.

– Sherlock (TV)

This show. THIS SHOW. I can’t quite remember if I watched this in late 2012 or early 2013, but I’ll include it in here anyway. I could go on forever about this show, but honestly, who would bother to read it? Just watch it. All the hype you’ve heard about, it’s worth it. Amazingly written with amazing acting.

– Rookie Blue (TV)

HAIL ROOKIE BLUE! ALL HAIL ROOKIE BLUE! Another Canadian show worth watching. From the trailers and stuff from this show, it looks mediocre, but I really like it. It’s an exciting police drama and I was quite impressed by the acting. I <3 Nick!

– Star Trek: Into Darkness

…Zach Quinto, Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch. That is all.

– Thor: The Dark World

This was sooooo much better than the first in my opinion. A lot of humour in it too which I liked. Also….TOM HIDDLESTON. Also…I need Thor 3 now.

– The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Ohmygoodness. I was so impressed with this adaptation. I think it may be the best book adaptation I have ever seen. Enough said.

– Warm Bodies

This movie surprised me. I was drawn to it from the trailer, but the movie played out differently from it in my opinion. I loved the humour in it. And Nicholas Hoult – hello!

I love action movies. I will always be in the mood to watch one.

Books

Regretfully, I haven’t read many books last year. But I must add that many of the ones that I did disappointed me. Here are a couple exceptions:

– The Great Gatsby

A classic. Decided to read it when I heard about the movie coming out. I admit it was quite slow at the beginning, but the book surprised me. The ending and just some of the events in the book I wasn’t expecting at all. Definitely give this book a read.

– The Fault in Our Stars

Yes. Just yes. John Green hit this one home. A terribly wonderful love story. That’s all I’m going to say if you haven’t read it yet!

SOOOO…that’s it! Doesn’t seem like much, but this took me a while to write:) Xmas haul soon, I promise.

september favourites

Sorry x 100 for the lack of posts. I’ve been extremely busy with school, cross country and clubs! I’ll try to post once a week (I hope) I don’t have too many favourites for September, but stay tuned for an “I Love Fall” tag post and some more outfit posts.

L’oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions

I love the wand on this mascara – it’s very thin and the bristles are small too. It’s ideal for my lashes, which are practically non-existant. I have the waterproof version and it holds the curl fairly well.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Berry

I love this line of lip treatments. They smell so good and the colours are very pretty. This particular one can be quite pigmented, so I just dab a bit on and blend it in for some colour. It’s a great colour for the fall.

New York Yankees – For Her

It’s a random brand for a perfume, but I got a free sample of this from a drugstore and I admit I am impressed. It smells really good!

This is not the exact boot – but I love combat boots for the fall. I have a similar pair from Call It Spring in brown. They’re versatile and go with pretty much any outfit. Definitely a staple.

Music Favourites

  • AM – Arctic Monkeys : I absolutely love love love the Arctic Monkeys. I can’t choose a favourite off the album.
  • Jake Bugg: His debut album is amazing. His voice is very different, but at 19 he is extremely talented. I recommend listening to Two Fingers, Seen It All, and Broken.

Here’s some of the things I’ve bought in the past month or so that don’t really have any relation!

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color in 280 Marine Scene

I was browsing in the beauty section of Walmart and saw a shelf of this line of nail polishes for only $2.77. I couldn’t resist. It’s more of a  pretty teal colour in real life. Will be wearing it on my nails next week.

Found this with a friend at a 50% off day at our local thrift store. It was in decent condition and was only $2.50!

Where Things Come Back – John Corey Whaley

172 Hours on the Moon – Johan Harstad

I love reading and haven’t bought any new books in a long time, so I decided to treat myself. Read good reviews on both books on Goodreads and I am excited to start them soon (hopefully on a day where I have little homework, if that ever happens).

I decided to include some music I have acquired recently as well. My friend bought the new Arctic Monkey’s album AM and shared it with me (thank you thank you) The album is amazing. I also bought The Killer’s new single “Shot At The Night” from their upcoming “best of collection” album. The song is produced by M83 and sounds great. Also been listening to the 1975’s debut album and loving it!

And that’s it for this short blog post. An outfit and styling post coming soon.

august favourites

In the summer I don’t really use any makeup, but here are a few beauty favourites I have this month.

Image

Image

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo

This isn’t really a beauty product, but I have been using this shampoo for about a month and a half and I am quite happy with it. They are only available at hair salons (possibly online too, not sure) After using it, my scalp and hair felt extra-clean. The tea tree leaves a tingling feeling and it great for people with dry scalps.

Spectro AcneCare® Deep Pore Vanishing Lotion

EOS Smooth Sphere Lip Balm in Summer Fruit

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish

The Spectro lotion is great for acne. I don’t have a lot of acne, but now and again I would get bad breakouts on my forehead or around my nose. I had been continuously using some Neutrogena acne care products, but nothing was working. Eventually I tried the Spectro lotion and now I don’t use anything else! The lotion contains benzoyl peroxide which reduces the amount of acne-causing bacteria. I definitely recommend this product, but make sure to follow the instructions on the bottle. Also, it is better to apply at night as it leaves a white residue when it dries (can be easily washed off!)

My lips get dry very easily, so I have been using these two products together frequently this month. I got the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish from my mom in a gift set and it works very well! I am also obsessed with the EOS lip balm…in my opinion the Summer Fruit flavour smells like the fuzzy peaches candy…yum! As you can see in the picture I have used quite a bit! I hope to get the Sweet Mint or Pomegranate-Raspberry flavour when I am done this one.

Now onto the entertainment favourites.

TV Show: Orphan Black

blog1a

My friend recommended that I watch this show and I’m glad I did. IT’S SO GOOD. It’s a BBC America production and is a sci-fi series set in Toronto, Ontario. The show is about a woman named Sara who witnesses a suicide of someone who looks like her. She assumes the life of the deceased woman and soon discovers she is one of many clones. Such a good series and Tatiana Maslany’s acting is phenomenal. Please start watching this show now!

Music:

Sleep Alone – Two Door Cinema Club

Changing of the Seasons – Two Door Cinema Club

Chartreuse – Capital Cities

My Number – Foals

Our Song – Matchbox Twenty

Random favourites: Homeade blueberry muffins. I am addicted. There is a blueberry patch in a park near me and my sister and I go pick fresh blueberries for my mom to make desserts! :)

I hope you enjoyed reading about my monthly favourites.

*New post in two days*

packages in the mail = happiness

Here are some things that came in the mail today!

Image

Woohoo! A new phone case and Two Door Cinema Club’s second studio album (deluxe edition!) About 2 weeks ago I got a new phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace II x) and I wanted a case for it. Instead of spending $20 on a boring one at the Virgin Mobile store, I looked for some on eBay. I found a cute cassette one for around $5. It also came with a screen protector and a stylus, which is a bonus. It was supposed to come with a waterproof pouch for the phone, but I guess the seller ran out. A bit disappointing, but at least they sent the stylus in replacement.

ImageLove the case! Big thanks to my aunt for ordering it for me :)

ImageImage

The album is beautifuuuul. I had downloaded the regular version to my iTunes, but that wasn’t good enough for me. I really wanted the deluxe version after seeing them live, so I convinced my dad to get it for me off Amazon. Thanks dad.

Image

Best part about the deluxe edition? There’s a second disc with live songs from their Brixton Academy set. I can’t wait until their new EP.

Now going a bit more into detail…

Image

Changing of the Seasons is Two Door Cinema Club’s new song off their upcoming EP (single released August 20!) It only aired two days ago, but I am already obsessed. I will definitely be listening to it for a loooong time. Especially when the new EP comes out. I am beyond excited. I also included two other TDCC’s songs (I had a hard time picking), which I will never, ever, tire of. Give them a listen.

Image

If you want teen pop rock, here it is. After hearing One Direction’s cover of Teenage Dirtbag at their concert, I had to give the original a listen again. I had it on repeat for days after the concert. Brendan B. Brown’s vocals take some getting used to though! It’s a song that’ll easily get stuck in my head.

Image

I mean, just look at the artwork. Safe and Sound was just so catchy, and after seeing them at Osheaga I began to enjoy Chartreuse A LOT. Although their songs sound very produced, they are amazing live.

Image

Again, this artwork is beautiful. Plus side – this band is Canadian. I’ve listen to Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It (phew I’m out of breath) on repeat ever since The North album came out. Listened to it even more before Osheaga. Who could not like the indie-pop feel of this band?

Image

I love love love this band. Listen to Sofie, Afterglow, and Maybe in the Dark. You will understand.

Hope you enjoyed my summer playlist post! What have you been listening to this summer?
