beauty favourites of 2013

I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a loooong time – a month almost. Oops. Went on a bit of a hiatus. With 4 difficult courses this semester, I was stuck one week with a couple tests and projects due. I’ll definitely be posting more in February after exams. Now onto my favourites of 2013!

20140101-204035.jpg

Spectro AcneCare Deep Pore Vanishing Lotion: My holy grail product. My acne used to be very frequent in my T-zone, but ever since I started using this, it has not been a problem. Very effective and has been the best spot treatment I’ve used.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rosé: Absolutely love this. Finished a full size of it. It smells great and gives a nice sheer colour. Also quite moisturizing. Hope to try out some other colours soon.20140101-204056.jpg

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie: Never used to be a big lip colour person, but after using this product I was impressed. It has been the hype for a while and I can see why. Beautiful shade. Really want one in the watermelon colour!

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain: Has a nice mint smell and this colour is not too overpowering. Does leave a bit of a stain, but not like lipstick would over time which I like.

Essie Nail Polish in Bikini so Teeny: This colour is my favourite. I have never seen anything like it in other brands. Don’t know what else to say – just love the colour.20140101-204105.jpg

Benefit They’re Real Mascara: Was given this from my aunt (I think it was because she didn’t like that it wasn’t waterproof). I like to layer this with my other favourite mascara for a waterproof coat and extra length. This is definitely a great mascara like everyone says.

L’oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara: The mascara I use in tandem with the Benefit one. This definitely adds length and I like how the brush is not too thick (the big brushed mascaras don’t get all my short Asian lashes!)20140101-204113.jpgForgot to include this in the first picture, but here’s my last favourite.

EOS Lip Balm in Sweet Mint: Finally decided to jump on the bandwagon and try one of these when they were on sale in the summer and I don’t regret it! I love them. I have one other in Summer Fruit, but this flavour is definitely my favourite. The mint gives a slight tingle like a Blistex but without being fully medicated.

Thanks for reading. I’ll definitely be posting a few more times before exam time so stay tuned :)

I ♥ fall tag

Tag posts like these have been floating around for a while and I love watching the tag videos on YouTube.

1. Favourite fall lip product?

I definitely prefer slightly darker shades. Revlon’s Lip Butters in Pink Truffle and Berry Smoothie would be my favourites.

2. Favourite fall nail polish?

Plum Attraction by Revlon – it’s a couple year’s old but I love this colour for fall.

3. Favourite fall Starbucks drink?

Well, I can’t really drink any specialty Starbucks drink because of my nut allergy, but I’d say hot chocolate is my favourite fall drink!

4. Favourite fall candle?

I don’t own any candles, but I like Marshmallow Fireside and Farmstand Apple by B&BW.

5. Favourite fall clothing item or accessory?

Cardigans and scarves! I love the fall time especially for layering – I basically live in cardigans. Also, scarves are great to add to an outfit and I definitely like the infinity scarf trend. I need more!

6. Haunted house, haunted hayride, or haunted corn maze?

Probably a haunted hayride. I’ve been to a haunted corn maze and I just don’t like getting scared! I think a hayride would be more fun and less scary.

7. Favourite Halloween movie?

I don’t remember any of them, but probably the Halloweentown series. I used to watch them every Halloween as a kid.

8. Favourite candy to eat on Halloween?

I love chocolate, but probably the Maynard gummy candies like Swedish Berries or Fuzzy Peaches.

9. What are you dressing up as for Halloween?

Mini Mouse for school!

10. What is your favourite thing about fall?

The colours. I think the trees look so pretty with all the different colours. I also like being able to wear my combat boots and peacoat. :)

september favourites

Sorry x 100 for the lack of posts. I’ve been extremely busy with school, cross country and clubs! I’ll try to post once a week (I hope) I don’t have too many favourites for September, but stay tuned for an “I Love Fall” tag post and some more outfit posts.

L’oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions

I love the wand on this mascara – it’s very thin and the bristles are small too. It’s ideal for my lashes, which are practically non-existant. I have the waterproof version and it holds the curl fairly well.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Berry

I love this line of lip treatments. They smell so good and the colours are very pretty. This particular one can be quite pigmented, so I just dab a bit on and blend it in for some colour. It’s a great colour for the fall.

New York Yankees – For Her

It’s a random brand for a perfume, but I got a free sample of this from a drugstore and I admit I am impressed. It smells really good!

This is not the exact boot – but I love combat boots for the fall. I have a similar pair from Call It Spring in brown. They’re versatile and go with pretty much any outfit. Definitely a staple.

Music Favourites

  • AM – Arctic Monkeys : I absolutely love love love the Arctic Monkeys. I can’t choose a favourite off the album.
  • Jake Bugg: His debut album is amazing. His voice is very different, but at 19 he is extremely talented. I recommend listening to Two Fingers, Seen It All, and Broken.

back to school backpack/locker essentials

Here are some of my back to school essentials which will be living in my backpack and/or locker!

  • Locker whiteboard – It’s there whenever you need to write a note to remind yourself of something
  • Locker mirror – Always handy to have if you need to check up on your makeup or hair after class (and especially after P.E.)
  • Gum – I always like to have some to chew on if I feel lightheaded or after lunch!

Image

  • Lip balm – Definitely a necessity in my opinion!

Image

  • Hand cream – To go along with the lip balm…moisturizing is key during a long day at school.

  • Hair ties – Keep many around! I easily lose mine and regret not having them handy whenever I need my hair out of my face or if I have P.E./sports practice
  • Bobby pins – Same reason as having hair ties
  • Deodorant/facial wipes – Perfect to have after a P.E./sports practice to freshen up

Image

  • Those feminine products – Sometimes the “time of month” can surprise you! It’s also great to have in case your friend is in an emergency as well.

Image

  • Pens! I always seem to lose mine, or I’ve lent them to someone and they haven’t returned it… :( Good to keep in your backpack and locker to grab in case you need to write something down.
  • Granola bars – I usually eat one between each class (minus lunch!) Convenient to have a couple in your backpack/locker in case you get hungry!

Image

  • Pictures – My last essential…which is not really an essential. I like to tape pictures of my friends and family in my locker to cheer me up (school sucks) It also adds some originality to your locker for the year.

august favourites

In the summer I don’t really use any makeup, but here are a few beauty favourites I have this month.

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo

This isn’t really a beauty product, but I have been using this shampoo for about a month and a half and I am quite happy with it. They are only available at hair salons (possibly online too, not sure) After using it, my scalp and hair felt extra-clean. The tea tree leaves a tingling feeling and it great for people with dry scalps.

Spectro AcneCare® Deep Pore Vanishing Lotion

EOS Smooth Sphere Lip Balm in Summer Fruit

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish

The Spectro lotion is great for acne. I don’t have a lot of acne, but now and again I would get bad breakouts on my forehead or around my nose. I had been continuously using some Neutrogena acne care products, but nothing was working. Eventually I tried the Spectro lotion and now I don’t use anything else! The lotion contains benzoyl peroxide which reduces the amount of acne-causing bacteria. I definitely recommend this product, but make sure to follow the instructions on the bottle. Also, it is better to apply at night as it leaves a white residue when it dries (can be easily washed off!)

My lips get dry very easily, so I have been using these two products together frequently this month. I got the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish from my mom in a gift set and it works very well! I am also obsessed with the EOS lip balm…in my opinion the Summer Fruit flavour smells like the fuzzy peaches candy…yum! As you can see in the picture I have used quite a bit! I hope to get the Sweet Mint or Pomegranate-Raspberry flavour when I am done this one.

Now onto the entertainment favourites.

TV Show: Orphan Black

blog1a

My friend recommended that I watch this show and I’m glad I did. IT’S SO GOOD. It’s a BBC America production and is a sci-fi series set in Toronto, Ontario. The show is about a woman named Sara who witnesses a suicide of someone who looks like her. She assumes the life of the deceased woman and soon discovers she is one of many clones. Such a good series and Tatiana Maslany’s acting is phenomenal. Please start watching this show now!

Music:

Sleep Alone – Two Door Cinema Club

Changing of the Seasons – Two Door Cinema Club

Chartreuse – Capital Cities

My Number – Foals

Our Song – Matchbox Twenty

Random favourites: Homeade blueberry muffins. I am addicted. There is a blueberry patch in a park near me and my sister and I go pick fresh blueberries for my mom to make desserts! :)
